How to build a coffee shop brand in Dubai, step by step

Most coffee shops in Dubai serve good coffee. The ones people remember also have a clear identity: a story, a look and details that repeat in every cup, bag and uniform. This is how we build that identity, step by step, with one of our projects as the example.

1. Start with the business, not the logo

The first conversation is about your business, your audience and your goals. Who comes in at 8 a.m.? Who stays until closing? What should they feel when they walk in? A logo comes much later.

2. Choose the scope that fits your stage

A new coffee shop and a growing chain need different things. That is why every proposal has three options, each one building on the one before, so you choose what fits where you are today.

3. Understand before you create

A brief turns that first conversation into clear decisions: the neighborhood, the customer, the menu, the competitors and the experience you want to build.

4. Find the story

This is where an identity becomes yours. For Backyard, a coffee shop in Dubai, we started from what a backyard means in childhood stories: a green, generous space where only the people you trust come in. That invited circle became a cast of characters who live inside the brand, under the tagline Your Neighborhood Coffee Club.

5. See it before you design it

Mood boards collect real references for colors, type and graphics. They let you agree on the direction before a single logo is drawn, which saves weeks of changes later.

6. Design the identity

The design proposal presents the logotypes, colors, typography and graphic system, with everything learned in the steps before.

7. Apply it to the real world

A coffee shop lives in the details: cold and hot cups, coffee bags, paper bags, boxes, stickers, the facade, aprons, staff shirts and caps, and social media templates. The brand guidelines keep all of it consistent, even when the team changes.

What a complete identity makes possible

Backyard has kept opening new neighborhoods since launch and now has 16 locations across the UAE. A complete system makes each new opening easier, because the brand already knows how to look, speak and behave.
